HandsFree(TM) Thai with Chuck Duff

September 13, 2011 by Ivy Hultquist

I practice Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage 90% of the time in my office.  I have practiced barefoot massage for the be better part of my 10+ years as a massage professional.  I love it.  I try to incorporate new barefoot techniques when possible.   There is not a great deal of information about ashiatsu barefoot out there, so I research other barefoot techniques often.  I came across the work of Chuck Duff in my search for more barefoot techniques.  I really, really wanted to go to a HandsFree(tm) Thai class Chuck Duff was going to have this past month.  I love trips to the Chicago area.  However,  my daughter was having cleft lip surgery.  I purchased the DVD, which had great reviews, on Amazon.  I thought I may have time while my daughter  was “down” following the surgery.  That “down” time never came.  I need the energy of my 20 month old and 4 year old, or at least half.  Luckily, I did find the time to watch the DVD during some nap times.

The DVD is $50.  Yes, fifty dollars, five – zero dollars.  It is an investment.  However,  I have bought a few Thai DVD’s in my day and taken quite a few hours of Thai Massage; this is a great DVD.  It is 2 hours long and contains a lot of great information for massage professionals.   It is a little hard to stay alert since Mr. Duff’s voice is pretty calming, so I had to take breaks to keep my energy up and absorb all of the information he was sharing the first time I watched it.

I loved the information of the DVD.  Everything was thoroughly explained and it was a good visual presentation.  The DVD should satisfy the needs of beginners or seasoned massage professionals.  I have adapted some of the techniques since I primarily practice and stand on a massage table.  Ashiatsu bars are not required for this DVD, but I like having them since I am on my table and not a traditional Thai mat.   If you are looking to further your Thai repertoire, save your hands from injury, or begin to explore the world of barefoot massage – try this DVD.  Let your clients reap the benefits of Thai massage sessions.  They are very effective.

The seminar class is definitely on the list of classes for me to take soon.  I enjoy watching and learning techniques from the comfort of my own home, but I know would like to take the seminar too.  You can tell Mr. Duff is a gifted teacher.

Has anyone taken the course or bought the DVD?  Any other barefoot techniques courses or DVD’s to share?
