Oil Resistant Massage Table Cover – Get One!

October 3, 2011 by Ivy Hultquist

I was looking to cover my table for an outdoor event where I was going to volunteer. I knew I was going to have a lot of people and their dirty shoes on my massage table in a short amount of time, and I wanted something to protect it.

I have never, ever been a fan of the plastic covers typically used for event table massage. They make noise are not that comfortable for clients to lie on. They can be reused, but who wants too?   So, I set out to find something better….and I did.

I saw a thread on BodyworkOnline about an oil resistant/vinyl cover for massage tables.  I followed the link to Bestmassage.com.  I then research this type of product on Amazon and saw that Earthlite also has one available. The reviews were very good. I quickly ordered one and now cannot imagine my table without it.

Read the reviews and see this cover on Amazon.com

Why I like this product…

  • Colors – Event massage is fun, why not make your table fun too? Best Massage sells a few more colors but their cover is smaller than Earthlite’s. You can view their cover here
    .
  • Soft and Quiet –  The material was very soft and quiet. Much, much better than the other plastic covers. Even while I walk on the table during an ashiatsu session there is no sound from it
  • Sanitary -I love using memory foam and fleece toppers for my table, but hate permeable, unsanitary surfaces. I had always used waterproof mattress pads on top of my foam, but this will not take the place of those. This items cuts down on a lot of laundry (washing mattress covers).  It has been very easy to wipe down and clean. **I know people said they have used it for tears on their table. I do not think it is meant to recover your table, but could be used in a pinch until a table is fixed.

What to else to expect…

  • My only complaint is that it could be slightly bigger because of  my foam pad. Earthlite’s is slightly larger and works for 32 inch tables.
  • There is a slight odor ,which I expected.  The “new vinyl” odor dissipated very quickly and was not a problem at all.

I highly recommend it to people who use fleece toppers or foam pads or anyone who wants to protect their table while at an event massage job.

Again, you can see it on Amazon here.

Hi, I’m a little late to the party.

How do you clean the one you bought from Amazon? Do you just wipe it down with some alcohol-free sanitizer between clients? Or do you wash it in the machine? Also, do clients every get sweaty while lying directly on this? Or are they usually pretty comfortable? Lastly, how long has this thing held up for? Have you needed to replace it yet?

    Thank you so much!

In between clients, I wipe it as I would normally. I have washed mine several times in the washer and hung it up to dry. It is very durable. I have had this last one for years and hundreds of massages.

Also, mine is very soft. It would be just as comfortable as a massage table, but not as comfortable as a nice sheet.

May I ask where you bought the cover from?

Mine was from Amazon. Earthlite used to have a really good one available on there. I have had a generic one like Oil-Resistant Sheet for Massage Tables (White)” target=”_blank”>this too.

Would this work with a table warmer or not recommended? Thank you.

You know, I looked and did not see a warning about that. You could email and ask them I have used a low-heat table warmer under mine on occasion without any problems.

I use one, just as described in the article, to cover my fleecy table warmer. I was grossed out thinking of using just a sheet over the fleece, which cannot be wiped down after each client, and this solved the problem. There are other products that specifically say NOT for use over a table warmer, but this one has no warning against it, so I figured it would be OK. Two years later, it’s still in great shape.

I recently took a class in lomi lomi Hawaiin massage and during the massage session, we take off the bottom sheet so we can glide under the body and do work in that manner. Would these sheets work well for this type of modality or are they more fabric like. Oakworks does sell a vinyl cover that works great but is $75. I would love your feedback. Thanks.

      Hi Megan,

It is not really a sheet. Mine feels like the top of my massage table (soft vinyl), the bottom has a light fabric backing. So you really cannot “wipe down” the underside if you go underneath it (if I understand you right). I have made one myself from “baby dry fabric” (which is vinyl) that you can get at most fabric stores. I have wanted to make a video tutorial on how to do that, but I have not got there. If you have any sewing abilities, you could make one pretty easily with a that fabric and elastic.

      I hope that helps!

P.S. I had no idea Oakworks made one. Here is the link to a Facebook thread for that for others. Thanks for telling me.

      Thanks for stopping by!

I am a professional massage lomilomi therapists , I have been testing variety of sheets, so far I haven’t found the right sheets for my lomilomi customer, all she said were ordinary massage, without the use of a large number of oil during the massage. My experience is not a waste of money to buy any kind of, because of they are very difficult to clean.

Those covers sound great. Oil stained covers do not look great when you are treating clients.

    Ivy,

I hope you’ll be sure to leave your pros & cons of the cover on the BWOL forum as well!!

I plan to use mine just to cover my table that I keep set up at home. Mainly because we also have a tendency to occasionally set items on it occasionally, and this cover will help keep the original from getting torn.

It’s nice to hear another way someone is using this though! 🙂

Enjoying your blog… will add a few items to my music section for my blog in the future because of another post you had. 🙂

Will do Pueppi! I have just started visiting and hanging around the BWOL site lately. A lot of information there.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out the blog. I just looked at your site. Please do leave some suggestions for music. I looked at your site and it is obvious you have a lot information and knowledge there 🙂

Wait, I’m confused. Do you do fleece, then the vinyl, then matress pad, then sheet?

I use a mattress pad on my table, then the vinyl cover, and then sheets. I use fleece on my face cradle with a face cradle vinyl cover over that and a cotton cradle cover over that. Sorry about the confusion!

Does your cotton cover fit nicely over the *vinyl* face cradle cover? Or, do you have any notable issues sliding the cover over the vinyl? And, does it happen to be cotton flannel like a normal face cradle cover?
