2011 Massage Therapy Foundation Donation

December 26, 2011 by Ivy Hultquist

This past week I submitted a contribution on behalf of all of my Advanced Massage Techniques customers to the Massage Therapy Foundation.  It easily surpassed Advanced Massage Techniques’ 2010 inaugural donation.  I am happy to report this year we were able to donate  a $1000.00 to this great charity from continuing education purchases!  In October, I also sent in a matching donation to Smile Train on behalf of AMT customers.

Why do I support the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF)?

For those of you who are not familiar with the MTF; the goal of the Massage Therapy Foundation (501c charity) is to serve the amazing massage therapy profession . They serve our profession by providing:

Funding Massage Therapy Related Research
Massage therapists see everyday how massage therapy and touch benefits the lives of others. Through research projects, we can prove the benefits by showing measurable results. These results help us further validate the massage profession as necessary and highly effective form of health care. Research results help pave the way for respect for the massage therapy field and further growth of our profession.

Funding Community Service Grants
I think this is one of my personal favorite things that I see that the Massage Therapy Foundation (MTF)  funds.  Grants given by the MTF are made available to help under-served populations and those who need, but can not afford, therapeutic massage. The foundation provides grants to practitioners and organizations to help provide people in need access to benefits of massage therapy.  Click here to read about this years recipients.  What was my favorite project this year?  It would have to be Tina Allen’s (LiddleKidz) work with Japanese orphans.  How could it not be after adopting my own little miracle this year?

The Future of Giving and Massage CEUS at Advanced Massage Techniques…

Again, thank you so much for all of your continuing education purchases this year!   I am confident in the charities we have chosen and know the money will be put to good use.  As long as I see these charities use donations wisely and responsibly,  I will continue AMT’s giving campaign to the Massage Therapy Foundation and Smile Train.

Soon I will announce an exciting, new CE offering from Advanced Massage Techniques. I am confident in 2012 we will be able to surpass the amount donated this year. Yeah!

Stay tuned!

    Ivy,

Thank you so much for your incredibly generous support of the Foundation. As I’m sure you are aware, this is a very significant investment in the Foundation that directly translates to a very significant investment in our profession. Supporting research enhances and contributes to the existing body of knowledge and helps us to better deliver the powerful benefits of our work; supporting our community services helps our peers reach out and touch populations in need that might not ordinarily have the opportunity to reap the benefits of massage. Supporting the Foundation helps all of this.

So again, thank you so much…you set a stellar example for the profession. Best to you in 2012 and beyond…

Ivy you’re amazing! Happy New Year! Thank you so much for sharing the Massage Therapy Foundation story and so beautifully explaining why you invest in the Foundation.
I’m honored to serve as a Foundation trustee and the development chair, so I’m particularly grateful for your wisdom and enthusiasm. And I love that you also singled out Tina Allen and her LiddleKidz Foundation—so deserving.
Just one little note for the future, the Foundation does not offer scholarships, but you’re absolutely right about the opportunity for research and community service grants, as well as student and practitioner case report contests. As you know, all the details are on Massagetherapyfoundation.org.
The Foundation is working hard to spend each penny wisely right now and we’re so excited to host the 2013 International Massage Therapy Research Conference in Boston. We hope to see you there!

Thank you for the information and taking the time to comment Leslie! I took care of the edits.

You worded it perfectly when you said “you invest in the foundation”. Donating to the profession is an investment our profession and our individual practices.

Thank you also for your service to the MTF.
